Alderman Doris Turner says a report released by think-tank Illinois Policy Institute ranking Springfield last in the state for funding public pensions doesn’t tell the whole story.
During a nearly one hour presentation by IPI’s VP Ted Dabrowski at Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole Meeting, Turner cautioned fellow aldermen to not take the report at face-value.
“I appreciate your advocacy on this is issue but I do want to caution you that there are other voices out there” Turner told Dabrowski and rest of the council.
Alderman Joe McMenamin invited the lobbying group to address the council on unsolicited study about the state of public pensions in Illinois.
Turner says it seems a little odd to make such a move for a meeting that was called for the purpose of moving a new budget to Wednesday’s debate agenda. Alderman Cory Jobe says he was just given the report and says the lobbying should have met with the mayor and the budget staff before addressing the council on the unsolicited report.
