The University of Illinois Board of Trustees wants President Tim Killeen to lead the system that includes universities in Springfield, Champaign-Urbana and Chicago for another three years. The U of I system says, Killeen’s tenure has been marked by “significant sustained progress in student enrollment, affordability, diversity, financial aid, research and statewide economic development.”

Under his leadership, enrollment across the system reached a record high for the 10th consecutive year last fall, with representation from all 102 Illinois counties. Research funding and fundraising has grown as well under Killeen, according to the university system.

While Killeen was at the helm, the system developed a novel saliva test for COVID-19 and developed a testing network: SHIELD Illinois and Shield T3.

Killeen’s current salary of $916,770 will remain the same. The contract extension is pending a formal vote and approval in March.
