Motorists who travel through Chatham will have to put up with some traffic headaches this summer but village officials say it will be worth it.
A major bottleneck will be upgraded after trustees approved using TIF money to upgrade the intersection of Main and Walnut.
Village attorney John Myers says using the funds this way is appropriate to help attract new businesses to the town.
“What we are doing is normal. It may not be normal in some particular TIFs around the state but it certainly happens all the time” Myers says.
The $1.4 million project will begin next month and should be completed by the end of the summer. The main enhancement to the busy intersection will be to extend the east-bound turn lane of Walnut west of Main.
