Illinois State police and other law enforcement agencies were involved in a high speed pursuit, which began near Hillsoboro and ended near Pana, that eventually led to a trooper firing his duty weapon at the suspect.

It all began when local law enforcement located a vehicle being driven north bound on IL Rt. 127 near Hillsboro by a man wanted in connection with a double homicide of two women in Collinsville. A pursuit began after officers attempted a traffic stop.

The suspect stopped his disabled vehicle on US Rt. 51 just north of Pana. The driver then pointed a firearm in the direction of an ISP Trooper. The ISP Trooper fired his weapon at the suspect. The suspect was taken to an area hospital for the treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries. The cause and nature of those injuries is under investigation.

The involved ISP Trooper is a 26-year veteran of the Illinois State Police.
