Two people died in a fiery crash on Interstate 55 south of Springfield Sunday night.

State police have updated the report to indicate a pickup truck and a car hit the semi, which created a roadblock in the southbound lanes after crossing the median from the northbound lanes near the Divernon exit around 8:47 p.m. Sunday.

The Sangamon County coroner says the driver of the car, a 66-year-old man from Lebanon, Ill., was pronounced dead at a local hospital, while his passenger, a woman, suffered what are described as life-threatening injuries.

The pickup driver, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The trucker was not hurt.

Lanes on I-55 were blocked for about ten hours.
