Many students are still confused on exactly what a Prairie Star is but, UIS is keeping their nickname.
Even though Prairie Stars only garnered 14-percent of the informal voting by students, UIS decided against using the top vote-getter, the Sabers with 60-percent because Athletic Director Kim Pate says one weakness is it may be confusing to spell.
“You have a desire to eliminate any kind of confusion and have clarity around your brand so the people wonder what it is. I think that has been an issue for us in the past; what is a Prairie Star. That’s been a question,” sayse Pate.
The study was conducted by students and an outside consultant from Louisville KY. The next step will to design a new logo for uniforms and develop a mascot.
