During a solemn ceremony at Camp Butler, some veterans buried there received full military honors they weren’t provided at their funerals.
Mike Henshaw, director of the national cemetery, oversaw the event Wednesday that honored ten veterans.
“We hold the ceremony every three months to honor veterans who passed away that couldn’t be afforded funeral honors at the time of their commital service,” says Henshaw. “We are so pleased that so many come out to pay their respects.”
A 21-gun salute, taps, and a full color guard rendered the honors. Flags were then presented to family members. More than 50 attended the ceremony.
