The every-ten-years redistricting has hit Springfield aldermen, who eyeballed a first draft of a new ward map Tuesday.

Newly-drawn wards drew criticism from veteran council members.

“I’m losing a lot of neighborhoods, and I’m barely in my own ward,” said Ald. Kristin DiCenso. “So in Ward 6, I did not shift west; I shift south. In a big way. So I am losing a lot of neighborhoods that I had.”

“You are going to have to buy a boat, you are so close to the lake,” quipped Ald, Chuck Redpath,

“Shh, my son might be listening,” responded DiCenso.

Other council members shared DiCenso’s concern of losing constituents whom they have spent a long time serving.
