Illinois enjoyed a warm, wet week. Of course, if you are a farmer who wanted to get into the field spraying and/or planting, “enjoyed” is not the correct word.
State statistician Mark Schleusener, of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, says about three-quarters of the corn and soybean crops are in good to excellent condition.
“It was a little spotty,” Schleusener says of the rainfall over Illinois. “In west and central (Illinois last week), the average rainfall was over three inches. In the southern part of the state, rainfall less than two; in the northern part of the state, generally one or perhaps one and a
half inches.”
