State Rep. Robert Rita (D-Blue Island) has postponed a public hearing on expanding gambling in Illinois because of severe winter weather.

The hearing was set for Monday evening in Tinley Park. Rita’s spokesman, Ryan Keith, says the new date for the hearing hasn’t been determined yet.

The first hearing was last month in East St. Louis and drew many commenters, including those strongly opposed to a gambling expansion.

Rita supports a measure that would resemble one that failed in the Illinois General Assembly last year. It called for adding five new Illinois casinos, as well as slot machines at Chicago’s two international airports.
