The High School Blood Challenge is underway for the 14th year.

Lutheran High School Senior Logan Allen says he was taught from an early age to give is better than to receive and that is why he has chosen to donate blood for the last couple of years. He is encouraging his classmates to also particpate in the Central Illinois Community Blood Center’s challenge.

“It is really easy. You can just lay back and play with your phone if you want,” says Allen.

The center’s Tara Matheson notes the annual contest is to give young people and chance to be lifelong donors.

“We have over 40 participating high schools across central Illinois. What a great way to introduce it to young, new donors to create a habit for the future,” adds Matheson.

As an added incentive, Springfield Clinic is awarding $1,000 scholarships to the top donating schools across central Illinois. Last year, more than 11,000 donations from the challange were provided.

Any one can donate and choose the school to receive the credit.
