The College for Kids program at Lincoln Land Community College is expanding this summer to offer more than 60 programs.  The program runs from June 10 – July 25 at the LLCC Springfield Campus.  

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin visited Illinois College in Jacksonville Thursday and announced the school will receive $911,000 to expand its Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. The money was secured through Congressionally Directed Spending, also known as an earmark.

The identity of the 16-year-old shot near Southeast High School on Wednesday has been released. Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon says autopsy findings confirm Keyon Day of Springfield died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Friday is Arbor Day and the City of Springfield is commemorating the occasion by giving away 1,000 trees this week. City Arborist Brad Hamel says the city is providing young redbud, flowering dogwood and tupelo trees while they last.  Trees will be available on Friday at the Downtown YMCA and on Saturday at Lincoln Park.

The Chicago Bears unveiled a nearly $5 billion proposal Wednesday for an enclosed stadium next door to their current home at Soldier Field as part of a major project that would transform the city’s lakefront, and they are asking for public funding to help make it happen.
